BUC Studios has reached a defining milestone in its emergence as a major force in regional and international filmmaking, announcing the completion of its inaugural feature film, Kemet: Year One, alongside a landmark festival debut and a global theatrical distribution agreement.
The announcement comes following a high-profile showcase at the BUC Film Festival, chaired by legendary Egyptian actress Yousra, and attended by leading figures from across the film and media industry. In a moment that underscored both the scale and ambition of the project, the film’s official teaser was premiered for the first time on the big screen—culminating in a standing ovation from a packed audience of industry professionals.
“Kemet: Year One represents exactly what BUC Studios was built to achieve—real cinema, produced at a global standard, within an environment that empowers the next generation to work alongside industry professionals,” said Dr. Wael El Enany, Dean of the School of Filmmaking at BUC. “What we witnessed at the festival was not just a premiere, but a clear signal that this model is working—and that we are only at the beginning.”
This marked the first public unveiling of Kemet: Year One in a theatrical environment, signaling not just the arrival of a film, but the arrival of a new production model.
A Film That Signals Execution, Not Experimentation
Kemet: Year One stands as the inaugural production under the BUC Studios banner, developed in collaboration with Desert Eagle Films. The project represents a new benchmark for large-scale filmmaking in Egypt—shot entirely on location and built through fully practical environments, including hand-constructed village sets and immersive natural landscapes.
More importantly, the film serves as proof of concept for BUC Studios’ long-term vision: a fully integrated studio model where academic infrastructure meets professional, theatrical-grade production.
This is not a student exercise. It is a commercial, globally positioned feature film—designed from inception for theatrical release.
A Defining Festival Moment

The BUC Film Festival provided the ideal stage for this milestone. With Yousra presiding as chair, the event brought together a cross-section of the industry, from established filmmakers to emerging talent and institutional leaders.
The teaser premiere became the centerpiece of the festival.
Projected in a full cinematic setting, the footage introduced audiences to the film’s raw, grounded world—an ancient vision of Egypt before recorded history. The reaction was immediate and unmistakable. The standing ovation that followed was not simply a response to the visuals, but to the scale of execution and the clarity of vision behind the project.
For many in attendance, it represented a shift—an indication that a new level of filmmaking is not only possible in the region, but already underway.
Global Distribution Secured with Empire
Following the festival debut, BUC Studios confirmed that Kemet: Year One has secured a global theatrical distribution agreement with Empire Entertainment.
The film is officially set for theatrical release on June 11, with rollout plans spanning Egypt, the GCC, and key international markets.
This agreement marks a critical step in positioning the film beyond a regional release, aligning it with a broader global strategy that targets both core MENA audiences and international viewers seeking large-scale, culturally grounded cinematic experiences.
A Studio Arrives with Its First Statement

With the completion of Kemet: Year One, a successful festival debut, and a major distribution deal in place, BUC Studios has effectively moved from concept to execution.
The studio’s model—anchored in long-term production planning, infrastructure development, and selective talent integration—is now validated by a real, market-ready film.
This moment is not being framed as a launch. It is being recognized as an arrival.
And with a multi-film slate already in development, Kemet: Year One stands as the first chapter in what BUC Studios is positioning as a sustained, scalable presence in global cinema.
